FIA Institute YDEA Update

Sunday, August 07, 2011 10:59PM

The latest FIA Institute Young Driver Excellence Academy workshop in Grossdölln, Germany this week was quite a bit of fun. We spent most of the camp in the M3's again learning different car control techniques on difficult and always changing surfaces.

On top of that we focussed on high speed lap time competition, which was fantastic as I felt as though I was in an element where I could shine above the rally drivers! That said, when I was riding alongside a rally driver, it was invaluable to learn some different forms of driving and was quite cool to see their massive ability behind the wheel.

We did some serious ″Rocky-like″ training running through the woods, lifting logs, jumping into the lake - which was great for...

July Update from AR

Tuesday, July 19, 2011 7:58AM

Hello there,

When we last spoke I was doing my best to recover from the disappointment of what looked to be a very promising weekend in Monaco. It was my second DNF in two years and while this took me a bit to overcome mentally, I look back on the entire event and week with high regard as we were massively competitive and at the same time it was the first event that I got to work trackside in my development role with Team Lotus.

As you can imagine, our hopes were extremely high going into Nurburgring as we looked to fight back and retrieve our position back at the sharp end of the point standings. What was about to occur through this event was unexpected by all and truly ended up being the worst weekend and quite possibly the low...

Sunday, July 03, 2011 7:44PM

American Alexander Rossi produced another solid performance at the Hungaroring to finish 5th in race two of round six, World Series by Renault in Budapest, Hungary today, taking him to 101 points and maintaining P4 position in the Championship.

In the morning qualifying session Rossi, Wickens, Vergne and Costa all showed that they were pole contenders by topping the time sheets in turn early doors. On fresh tyres after pitting, the drivers at the top, which included Rossi, all swapped provisional pole once again in an action packed last five minutes of the session. At the qualifying chequered flag Rossi, lined his Fortec Motorsport car 4th and on the second row of the grid for the start of race two in Hungary.

Sunday is the day when...

AMERICAN ALEXANDER ROSSI SCORES IMPRESSIVE SECOND PLACE IN WSR RACE ONE AT HUNGARORING

Saturday, July 02, 2011 5:00PM

Alexander Rossi brought home 18 well deserved championship points and a 2nd place finish from the opening race at round six of World Series by Renault at the Hungaroring, Budapest, Hungary.

Despite the early threat of rain, the weather remained dry. Rossi was running in pole position for most of qualifying one this morning, but lost time in the last sector of his final flying lap and dropping him to a P5 grid spot during an extremely close fought session between the top six cars. However, Rossi was then promoted to P4 and a second row start position after a four-place grid penalty was incurred by second place Canamasas for a previous incident during the last round at the Nürburgring.

Rossi had a great start to race one this...

ALEXANDER ROSSI HUNGRY FOR POINTS AHEAD OF WSR ROUND SIX IN BUDAPEST

Wednesday, June 29, 2011 12:13PM

Fortec Motorsports driver Alexander Rossi heads to the Hungaroring in Budapest this week to contest round six of the 2011 World Series by Renault Championship.

The American driver is anxious to score points this weekend as he did when he achieved a spectacular GP3 series win at the track last year and a 3rd place podium finish at the 2009 Hungarian Grand Prix while competing in the International Formula Master Series.

The Hungaroring is located at the borders of Mogyoród, 19 kilometres from the centre of Budapest. Lying in a natural valley, the circuit is normally dusty due to underuse and its sandy surrounding soil. The track frequently becomes faster during a qualifying session, which leads competitors to try for their best lap as...

ROSSI QUICK QUALIFYING PERFORMANCE AT NÜRBURGRING NOT REFLECTED IN RACE RESULTS

Sunday, June 19, 2011 8:43AM

Round 5 of the World Series by Renault Championship in Nürburg, Germany, proved to be a challenging weekend for American driver Alexander Rossi who, after strong performances in both incident filled qualifying sessions, ended the weekend in 6th place in the Championship standings.

Rossi qualified strongly on Saturday morning, resulting in a front row position on the grid in P2, only 0.3 seconds off pole, for the first race of the weekend.

On Saturday afternoon the race began on a damp track and so, with no predicted rain, the field started the race on slick tyres. Rossi’s Fortec Motorsports car was forced out wide as the pack jostled for position in the short run down to turn 1. He was running in P3 on the approach to Veedol...

WSR Round 5 Qualifying 2 Nurburgring

Sunday, June 19, 2011 7:59AM

Following a disappointing race 1 yesterday, when a wheel-to-wheel clip with Vergne ended Alexander's race prematurely, the wet weather continued to persist for Sunday morning. Qualifying 2 was interupted several times with yellow and red flags, however Alexander was able to extract a P7 start for the afternoon...

WSR Round 5 Qualifying 1 Nurburgring

Saturday, June 18, 2011 10:00AM

Alexander has qualified in P2 for the first race of the Nurburgring weekend this morning. The qualifying session started dry, but when the clouds intensified all teams set out on track for a mad-dash first set. The rain came down, but then subsided for the last 10 minutes of the classified 'wet session'. With more wing permitted on the car, Alexander was very quick, but unable to catch Wickens who finished the session P1. Alexander set a time only 0.3 secs off pole position and will start this afternoon's race on the inside line for turn 1, which could prove to be an...

A June Update by AR

Tuesday, June 07, 2011 10:20AM

Hi Guys’

Just got back to my place in Italy for what seems like the first time since February! As you know from my last couple of blogs, the schedule has been quite jam-packed and only now does it show a bit of reprieve over the next couple of months. While it has been massively busy, I have very much enjoyed the year thus far and look forward to what the future has in store. While we are approaching the halfway point to the championship, there is still a lot to be done and accomplished by season’s close in October.

My journey after Spa began with the next race at the “Cathedral of Speed” in Monza, Italy. This is for sure the fastest circuit on the calendar and while I have some experience there in GP3, I was...
