An eventful race concluded the GP2 finale in Abu Dhabi today with both Caterham Team AirAsia cars finishing in the top ten and showing good pace throughout the race. 20 year old Alexander Rossi went from strength to strength this afternoon, gaining an impressive six positions from thirteenth on the grid. He defended well to drive a faultless race and fought an exciting battle in the closing laps to finish the unique GP2 race seventh, just ahead of team mate Luiz Razia.

Alexander Rossi moved up to tenth place in the opening laps of the race from fourteenth on the grid. Tyre degradation pushed the team into an early pit stop on lap eight and thereafter his pace was good amongst the mid-field cars, finally bringing the car home safely in thirteenth place.

Technical issues in the earlier practice session saw Alexander Rossi lose valuable time on track ahead of the qualifying session and with 18 cars covered by just one second competition is as fierce as ever. Traffic caused more delays for Rossi before he set his quickest sector times just as a red flag hindered his fastest lap. With just 3 ½ minutes to go he unfortunately ran out of time to improve his lap time and will start from fifteenth on the grid for Saturday's race.

Alexander Rossi will have a busy end to the 2011 season, competing for Caterham team AirAsia in the forthcoming GP2 Finale in Abu Dhabi and then taking part in the F1 Young Driver Test for the GP2 team’s senior counterparts Team Lotus.
The GP2 Series newcomer showed great pace in both recent GP2 tests at Barcelona and Jerez and finished the final test session P2 after just three days in the new car. The team have high hopes for the young American who adapted very quickly, proving he will be a strong contender in the GP2 2011 Finale race Abu Dhabi, 11th – 13th November. Caterham Team AirAsia concluded testing with a positive performance from American driver Alexander Rossi to finish P2 in Barcelona this afternoon.
The team worked closely with both Alexander and Rodolfo Gonzalez on set up this morning whilst the track dried following overnight rain. Alexander provided the team with lots of good feedback, happy with his car he finished the early session eighth after traffic held up his new tyre runs. A determined final session this afternoon proved what the American is capable of. With some long race simulation runs he made an impressive lap early on to sit P1 for the majority of the session. Caterham Team AirAsia is back in Spain for the final test of the year this week just north of Barcelona at the Circuit de Catalunya.
Young American Alexander Rossi joined the team for the first of two full days of testing. With very little GP2 experience Rossi showed great potential finishing in the top eight this morning, with both cars opting to save a set of tyres for the afternoon session. After lunch Rossi ran for 31laps to end the day P4 just 0.5 seconds the top spot.
Luiz Razia was also reunited with the team to run various programs in preparation for the Abu Dhabi GP2 Final race next month. He completed a total of 50 laps to finish today P19.

Alexander Rossi has won the 2011 World Series by Renault - FR 3.5 series Rookie Championship and secured third place in the Drivers’ Championship at the season finale in Barcelona, Spain today. His team, Fortec Motorsports, took 2nd place in the Constructors’ Championship.
At the Circuit de Catalunya this morning Alexander was running in the top four for most of the second qualifying session. Only one second separated the top 12 runners, making for a potentially mixed front end of the grid. With such close fastest lap times and some brake issues which carried over from yesterday, Rossi qualified in P7 for the final race of the season.

American driver Alexander Rossi brought home 12 valuable championship points with his 4th place finish from the opening race of World Series by Renault - FR 3.5 at the Circuit de Catalunya, Barcelona, Spain today, elevating him to third place in the Drivers’ Championship.
In the morning track conditions were a little tricky as an incident early into the qualifying session had left oil on the tarmac. In an intensely close fought battle between the top three contenders, and with less than 0.7 seconds spanning their times, Alexander qualified in P3 on a new set of tyres with a time of 1:33.048 to sit on the second row of the grid for the afternoon’s race.

For the season finale of the 2011 World Series by Renault season, American driver Alexander Rossi heads to the spectacular city of Barcelona in southern Spain this week. He sits in fourth place in the Formula Renault 3.5 Championship with 138 points, while his Fortec Motorsports team are in second position in the Teams competition with 185 points.
Following a faultless win by Alexander at Paul Ricard last month, and despite the team losing its appeal against both Fortec drivers exclusion from race two at Silverstone where Alexander finished in second place, he remains in a strong position to contend a top three finish in this years Formula Renault 3.5 title fight.

Hingham, UK - 27th September 2011- Team Lotus has today confirmed that Alexander Rossi, lead driver in the AirAsia Team Lotus Driver Development Programme and one of the standout race-winning performers in the 2011 World Series by Renault, will be taking part in the upcoming GP2 tests in Jerez and Barcelona with the Formula One team’s GP2 counterparts Caterham Team AirAsia.
