Rossi Tops Leaderboard in First GP3 Test

Saturday, March 06, 2010 12:00AM

Having led the way in Thursday morning's initial test, the ART driver was quickest in both of today's sessions as well, eventually getting down to 1m20.013sec around Ricard's 3D configuration. Rossi led an ART team 1-2 this afternoon ahead of teammate -- and fellow Formula BMW Americas series graduate -- Esteban Gutierrez, who had been fastest yesterday in the one session Rossi did not top.

"This is the way to start a new season, new series and with a great team, ART," Rossi commented. "I am very thankful for the confidence, both Nicolas Todt and Frederic Vassuer have in my abilities and the opportunity they have provided me. The exepectations are very high for this season, as they should be. The whole ART team expects...

Rossi Endures Bahrain Debut

Monday, March 01, 2010 12:00AM

In many respects for Rossi, this weekend was one 'to remember and forget', as an abnormal course of events kept the 18 year old from California from scoring points or finishing either round. For a championship winning driver, like Rossi these memorable events and experiences are motivating tools that happen to even the best drivers, and serve as situations in which to learn from.

"In practice we struggled with brake temperature, but the team sorted that with no problem for qualifying", Rossi commented. "Bahrain is very hard on tires and the complex Bridgestone's have a very small window. I was unable to maximize my 2nd set of tires in qualifying and my posted time from the 1st set was not enough as the track improved as...

OVERCOMING ADVERSITY AT 'YAS' - ROSSI 3RD IN GP2 ASIA CHAMPIONSHIP STANDINGS

Tuesday, February 09, 2010 12:00AM

"The MeritusQi car balance was really good, we just struggled to find clean laps and some luck in qualifying," Alexander commented. "In qualifying, I was quick from the start but suffered a delay when the FIA collected me to the weighbridge while pitting for my second set of tires. This was a random check but cost about 3 minutes. The team made efforts to get me out as quickly as possible and accidentally set in too much wing, causing the technical penalty imposed later in parc ferme. Mistakes happen, but the whole MeritusQi team worked really hard for me all weekend and I'm very thankful for the opportunity they gave me."

Alexander, having a brilliant start and determined to recover from the qualifying penalty, tore...

ROSSI SIGNS WITH ART Grand Prix

Tuesday, January 19, 2010 12:00AM

"This is a great opportunity for me," says Alexander. "ART is arguably the best junior team in the world. They've won in every series they've contested and I wouldn't want to be driving anywhere else. Nicolas Todt and I have been discussing my racing future for some time, and now we're finally able to work together. I'm thankful for the confidence that Nicolas and Frederic have in my abilities and look forward to getting to work at the first test in Paul Ricard."

"The GP3 Series promises to be a great championship," says ART Grand Prix co-owner Nicolas Todt. "It fits our team's vocation to be involved in the most competitive series, and with drivers of Alexander's calibre in our line-up we have all...

ROSSI IMPRESSES IN FORMULA ONE DEBUT

Tuesday, December 01, 2009 12:00AM

Rossi, 7th overall on the day, having earned the BMW Sauber test, by winning the Formula BMW World Finals in Mexico City this past December. Alexander worked through a planned team testing program, driving the BMW F1.09-07 on a modest size fuel load each session. This was the same chassis that Nick Heidfeld drove to fifth place in the season finale in Abu Dhabi.

"When I drove out of the pits for the first time, it was a special moment," Alexander added. "I immediately felt comfortable in the car and my quickest times were faster than Heidfeld posted when he tested in Jerez last March."

Throughout much of the afternoon, Alexander worked with the team on extensive aerodynamic testing, which meant running the car in...

Rossi Prepares for F1 test with BMW / Sauber

Tuesday, November 17, 2009 12:00AM

While perfection is something that is difficult to come by, it is necessary at times in GP2 series. This past week over the 3 days of testing, the time charts reflected the highly competitive nature of GP2, as often the top fifteen drivers were separated by merely half a second. The highly regarded premier feeder series into Formula 1, GP2 and Bridgestone have created a tire to have nearly identical characteristics to that of F1. This is by no mistake and is meant to prepare the next generation of F1 drivers for this important step as they learn to maximize the narrow window of the complex tire, often, the most critical element to putting in the penultimate lap in qualifying.

Rossi entered the Paul Ricard test with sights of perfecting...

Rossi (USA) Impressive in Abu Dhabi

Wednesday, November 04, 2009 12:00AM

"I need to thank Tiago and Jose, the owners of Ocean Racing for giving me my first shot in the GP2 formula," Rossi commented. "It was good to have strong race finishes after we struggled to find pace and grip in qualifying. We were very close to a podium in each of the races, which would have been perfect, but I'm satisfied as we overcame a lot. I felt great in my first 75 minute feature race, making no mistakes. Physically, I was prepared and could have raced another stint if needed."

The twelve GP2 teams completed two days of testing at Yas Marina Circuit ahead of the race. During these tests, Alexander and Ocean suffered traction problems exiting the slow corners. These issues continued into the race weekend,...

Rossi (USA) to race in Abu Dhabi for GP2 Asia Opener

Tuesday, October 27, 2009 12:00AM

Rossi the 2009 International Formula Master, 'Rookie Champion' with 3 wins has completed four days of GP2 testing in October, two in Abu Dhabi last week and two earlier this month at the GP2 Main series test in Jerez, Spain as he prepares for BMW / Sauber F1 test, December 1-3rd.

Alexander has been quite comfortable with the transition to the GP2 equipment and is looking forward to his debut this weekend supporting the Formula 1 finale.

"The Formula Master was the proper training ground for GP2," says Alexander. "The biggest difference between the two cars is the brakes. With the carbon brakes in GP2 you have to hit the pedal harder when you arrive at your braking point. Now that I found the limit, we are adjusting...
